SDAPA August Luncheon - Move San Diego's FAST Plan
Join us for a special presentation on Move San Diego's FAST Plan - a market research based regional transportation plan designed to improve transit performance by applying global best practices. Our speakers will be: international transporation consultant Alan Hoffman, President of the Mission Group and principal author of the FAST Plan along with Elyse Lowe, Executive Director of Move San Diego, and Marcela Escobar-Eck, Board Chair of Move San Diego.
The FAST Plan is a regional rapid transit strategy developed by an independent, community-based effort to more effectively and efficiently serve the needs of the San Diego region, get people to work quickly and reliably, be affordable to build and operate, attract more riders, save people travel time, measurably improve congestion, support "smarter" growth, improve neighborhood quality of life, reduce overall greenhouse gas emissions, and be flexible enough to adapt to future conditions and changes in travel patterns.
For a quick overview of the FAST Plan go to: http://www.movesandiego.org/pdf/FASTPlanFlyer090416.pdf
To see a full scale BRT system in action go to: http://www.streetfilms.org/archives/bus-rapid-transit-bogota/
While incorporating best global BRT operation principles, the FAST Plan is most similar to Brisbane's award winning Quickways which have produced a dramatic turnaround in transit use and image in a City about the size of San Diego. They move more people than any light rail system in the US and have helped produce a 40% increase in transit use in just three years. Besides saving time, the Quickway express services operate with little or no public subsidy.
