      3rd Annual "Regional Planning Collaborative: An In-Depth Discussion of Global Climate Change Initiatives in the San Diego Region." A Workshop for Planning Commissioners and Professional Planners - March 13, 2009 - Planning commissioners, local agency staff, and area planners are meeting for an afternoon to discuss global climate change legislation and the impact to local planning initiatives. Keynote presentations include the effects of climate change (Emily Young - San Diego Foundation), regional & local planning under SB 375and AB 32 (Bob Leiter - SANDAG), and using technology to combat climate change (Steve Kellenberg - EDAW). Tom Fudge of KPBS will moderate a panel session of experts discussing "What actions do we take to address climate change? How quickly? And at what cost?" Following the panel discussion, there would be two breakout sessions where participants can choose to further explore topics that include policy planning, infrastructure, economics, and implementation. 3.5 AICP CM Credits Pending.

      The San Diego American Planning Association 2009 Call for Awards! - March 13, 2009 - SDAPA is now accepting nomination submittals for the 2009 planning awards. Submittals are due March 13, 2009. Award winners will be announced at the May 7 Awards Ceremony. For more information contact the Awards Chair, Jennifer Cordeau at 619-243-2827.

      AICP Exam Training Sessions - March 7, 2009 - The San Diego APA section is proud to offer AICP training for candidates who wish to take the exam in May or November 2009. This training is offered only once a year. All planners who meet the criteria to take the exam are welcome to participate. The training includes four sessions: February 21, March 7, March 21, and April 11, 2009 to be held at . California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 11 Office, 4050 Taylor Street, San Diego, CA 92110. Cost is $50.00 for all four sessions. NOTE: We still have room for a few more people. Handouts are available for those who missed the first session.

            2008 AICP Symposium - Making a Difference with Green Community Strategies 
            This Symposium is available as a free podcast - eligible for 2.5 CM credits - until March 31, 2009. 

            Environmental sustainability and climate change issues are consuming the nation's attention. As of February 2008, nearly 800 mayors have pledged to "meet or beat" the Kyoto Protocol greenhouse gas emission reduction target for the United States. Local leaders of cities and regions are adopting a wide array of green community strategies: "green" municipal operations and construction standards, alternative forms of transportation, and "energy smart" growth.             Hillcrest Walking Tour - April 3, 2009 - The California Planning Foundation (CPF) and the San Diego APA section are co-sponsoring an upcoming Hillcrest Walking tour as part of three simultaneous walking tours which will take place across the state. Join local planners to celebrate 100 years of planning in the Hillcrest neighborhood which was designated by APA as one of America's "Great Places" in 2008. Highlights include the Vermont Street Pedestrian Art Bridge, a tour of the first modern row home development in the area, current projects, sustainability elements, implementation of the mobility plan and current efforts to update of the Uptown Community Plan.
