Young Planners Group: Kickoff Mixer - January 28, 2010 - San Diego APA is forming a Young Planners Group (YPG) to plan events that create a greater connection between planning students, young professionals and the larger planning community in the region. Although the name may imply that the YPG is just for the young, don't be fooled - we are a resource for all planners, but specifically target those under the age 35 and/or less than 8-10 years of experience. The purpose of the YPG is to provide opportunities to learn more about planning and related fields; build successful careers; expand social and professional networks; and ultimately become leaders in the planning profession and APA.
This event will be a great opportunity to come out to meet with other young professionals and students in a relaxed setting and find out what others in planning and related fields are doing. The event is open to all those interested in learning more about the Young Planners Group or joining a YPG Subcommittee. Please come out and join us! Please RSVP to Mario Osorio at mario.osorio at hdrinc.com if you are interested in attending. For more information please download flyer.

NAVFAC Symposium - March 2, 2010 - Our membership has a great opportunity to learn about the many NAVFAC opportunities for the planning and engineering professions. ACEC, in association with SAME, is holding a NAVFAC Symposium. It is being held March 2 at the Manchester Hyatt.
All NAVFAC Business Line leaders will be discussing their specific opportunities. Two of those lines are Asset Management and Environmental, which should be of particular interest to APA members. There will also be a panel discussion on LEED certification of Navy and Marine Corps projects (an architect, builder, NAVFAC Rep and USGBC).
Captain Keith Hamilton, Commanding Officer of NAVFAC Southwest, will be the lunchtime keynote speaker and the afternoon will feature breakout sessions that further explain opportunities for large and small businesses, as well as sessions on alternative energy and Anti-Terrorism / Force Protection design.
Please see brochure for the event which explains registration, sponsorship and exhibitor opportunities.
